OSGEMEOS

OSGEMEOS (born 1974 in São Paulo, Brazil) have created murals in Berlin, Lisbon, New York, Moscow, Athens, Krakow, for the Tate Modern in London, the Wynword Walls in Miami, Cultural Nova in the Netherlands, and a notable collaborative project with Aryz in Lodz, Poland. Pulling from São Paulo’s social and political circumstances, traditional hip hop style and Brazilian folklore and culture. They have created robust solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston and The Museu Vale in Brazil. Osgemeos work internationally in both the public sphere and contemporary art institutions and galleries.

This new work by OSGEMEOS will mark the 10th anniversary of “Pavil,” the first North American solo exhibition for the brothers, organized by Laurie Lazer and Darryl Smith of the Luggage Store in 2003. In addition to the exhibition of epic proportions combining extensive interior wall painting with object and sculptural elements, OSGEMEOS also created several murals along 6th Street and in San Francisco’s SOMA and Mission neighborhoods. The most prominent and enduring mural was the iconic “Pavil,” a solitary crouched figure with flame held high above, overlooking Market Street at the center of San Franicsco’s Mid-Market neighborhood; which they painted during the height of the anti war protests in San Francisco.

MUSIC:

TOMMY GUERRERO

As a teenager, Guerrero was one of the prominent members of the Bones Brigade, Powell Peralta‘s professional skateboarding team that was successful during the 1980s. He was well known for his relaxed style of street skateboarding and his Bones Brigade footage was primarily filmed in his hometown of San Francisco-the videos Future Primitive, The Search for Animal Chin, Public Domain, and Ban This all featured the street skateboarding of Guerrero. After riding for Powell Peralta, Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud, a hometown friend and Powell Peralta teammate, started the skateboarding company “Real”.

After his success in the world of skateboarding, Guerrero decided to pursue his musical interests and was a member of the skate rock band Free Beer and the experimental group Jet Black Crayon; however, Guerrero’s work as a solo artist has so far been the most commercially and critically successful.[citation needed] Guerrero’s critically acclaimed albums, EPs, and singles incorporate various types of music, from rock, hip hop, and funk, to soul, and jazz.
