New York artist, Joe Amrhein, opens an exhibition of his signature word works at Brian Gross Fine Art on Thursday, February 3rd, with a reception for the artist from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. The exhibition will continue through March 19, 2005.
In his first show at Brian Gross Fine Art, Joe Amrhein will install Arch, a piece recently exhibited in Open House: Working in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. The canopy of overlapping, hand-painted Mylar signs with colorful phrases taken from art criticism incorporate text and font icons appropriated from art related periodicals into an abstract, yet poetic visual language. He paints the key phrases onto glass, vellum, and Mylar in a variety of colors, typeface, and size that he overlaps in varying degrees, fracturing meaning and formal composition.
