Music Director Joana Carneiro and Berkeley Symphony continue the 2014-2015 season with a rare performance of Asyla by British composer Thomas Ades alongside Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, Op. 74, "Pathetique."
Firmly established as one of the leading artists of his generation, Thomas Ades has forged a multi-faceted career as a composer, conductor and pianist. With a large orchestral scoring, Asyla is a four-movement symphony that takes its name from the Latin plural of "asylum."
Widely considered one of Tchaikovsky's most revered works, Symphony No. 6 was written at the end of the composer's life and unveiled just nine days before he died.
