Pro Arts provides critical access to contemporary art in Oakland and the Bay Area through its independent curated exhibitions, capacity-building artist services, open studios and juried programs, and diverse collaborative programs. In addition to serving as an advocate for regional artists, Pro Arts offers youth and community programs to further engage art audiences that reflect innovative artistic expression, and the rich cross-section of cultures, ethnicity, age, and race in the Oakland/Bay Area.
Pro Arts Gallery rejects the inherently problematic power dynamics between artist and curator, artist and institution, artist and audience and institution and audience. Instead we collaborate with artists, cultural organizers and commoners to co-create long-form, thematic engagements -- modules and nodes -- that reflect, critique, expose, and introduce issues and concerns that affect our commonwealth.
Pro Arts Commons is a multi-use space for the expanded field of art, debate, experimentation, and collaboration.
