Private! Come in!

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Spare Change Artist Space (see times)
Spare Change Artist Space, a place for art within the financial planning offices of Rhodes & Fletcher, LLC, proudly presents its 17th contemporary art exhibition bridging personal finances and contemporary art. The current show, titled “Private! Come in!”, on view through January 2, 2015, features an expansive body of art illuminating various diverse facets of our battle to maintain a right to privacy. Artworks in the show tackle a wide range of issues including but not limited to how wealth protects privacy, how cell phone cameras are shaping the privacy debate, and how software algorithms construct misleading narratives. As always, Spare Change Artist Space capitalizes on the available wall and floor space of the financial planners’ downtown San Francisco office suite located at 465 California Street to showcase the art. The following events are being held in conjunction with this exhibition:

• Artist Wine and Cheese Reception for Private! Come in!: Thursday, October 16th at 6:30pm. Featuring unscheduled live performances. Meet the artists in person!
• Documentary Screening: “Terms and Conditions May Apply” Thursday, November 13th at 6:00pm
Directed by indie filmmaker Cullen Hoback, this documentary is a blistering exploration into the things included in an online service agreement. Hoback exposes what corporations and governments learn about people through internet and cell phone usage and what we can do to protect our privacy.
• Artist Talk: Wednesday, December 17th at 6:00pm at Rhodes & Fletcher, LLC. An interactive panel format discussion where the artists in “Private! Come in!” will talk with the audience about their work and their views on privacy.

Artists included in the exhibit: COLL.EO, K.G. Greenstein, Harris David Harris, LA Art Collective (Eder Cetina, Paul Wehby, and Tiffany Trenda), and Gordon Winiemko (with work by Jeff and Gordon).

Spare Change Artist Space started in 2005 and exhibits artwork primarily by contemporary local artists and curators, incorporating a theme which is important to both personal finances and art. Previous exhibitions have focused on topics such as long-term care, portfolio volatility, real estate markets, and income taxes. Spare Change Artist Space looks for artwork that gives a creative voice to the analytical world of financial planning. Rhodes & Fletcher, LLC is in turn dedicated to providing educational programming in conjunction with the artwork installed in their offices. The overarching goal of this collaboration is to create an environment where art enthusiasts will better understand personal finances and where everyone will better understand art. Can you imagine a world where “starving” and “artist” don’t go together?

Gallery hours are by appointment only. This exhibition runs through January 2rd, 2015.
