Marching with the SF LGBT Center at Pride 2016? Don't forget to sign up now! In preparation for the parade, we are partnering with the fabulous folks of Verasphere to guide you through a hat-making workshop. You're invited to join fellow marchers on Thursday, June 16 to create your own parade-worthy Verasphere-inspired hat and signage. Please arrive between 6:30 and 7:15pm in order to have enough time to complete your creation. We'll have some drinks and snacks, and attendees are welcome to bring food/drinks.
RSVP by registering here on EventBrite. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. You can register yourself and/or your group. You have total creative control over your hat, but as a creative prompt, we're asking you to think about the theme HEROES & HATS -- who's your hero? We'll have lots of hat-making supplies on hand. If you have a glue gun and/or favorite crafty items, you're welcome to bring it.
More About Verasphere:
The character Mrs. Vera was created by Michael Johnstone and his partner David Faulk (Mrs. Vera). Faulk fabricates the costumes from recycled materials. In Johnstone's work, the notion of drag is both deconstructed and celebrated. Mrs. Vera's wild layers of costume embody "fragments of a drag memory tornado," says Johnstone. She wears accessories created from recycled objects, and is also the keeper of wigs and artifacts from Johnstone's "lost culture." In public, Mrs. Vera and Johnstone act as ambassadors at events and festivals to remind people to value difference and celebrate the eccentric aspects of daily life. They often engage friends to participate in group performances. As a group they are called Verasphere.
