"Powers of Two" takes the Natasha Carlitz Dance Ensemble into new territory in collaboration with classical composer Mike Coffin. Working closely together, Coffin and artistic director Natasha Carlitz have developed a series of new works ranging from the clean lines of "Euclidean Plane" to playful euphoria in "Echo Lake." NCDE is also delighted to welcome guest company ArtistEDGE, premiering "Esperanza" by Jeannine Charles, with poetry performed live by Val Esperanza Ge. Rounding out the program are contributions from company members Maggie Hurd and Thea Patterson, plus a few Carlitz classics, including a revival of the idiosyncratic "Bookworms," last performed a decade ago.
Founded in 2005, NCDE performs regularly around the Bay Area and toured Egypt in 2010. Cairo's "Al-Ahram Weekly" described the company as "breathtaking... Carlitz imbued the stage with a spirit of enthusiasm, romance and joy. The ensemble... resonated with a sense of ecstasy and challenge."
Featuring company dancers Julia Canavese, Maggie Hurd, Thea Patterson, Alyse Romano, Jessica Stucke, Deanna Woodman, and Julianna Woodman, as well as guest artists.
