Pop-Up Contemporary Art Exhibition Coming To San Francisco's South Park In Mid-March

San Francisco – Bonhams is pleased to partner with Neon on an inaugural pop-up exhibition of auction highlights for its upcoming Made In California and Contemporary Art sales, open for public viewing from March 16-18 at 70 South Park Street in San Francisco.

The exhibition will feature works by blue-chip and mid-career artists from Bonhams’ Spring 2015 sales, including a stabile by Alexander Calder (The Mountain, 1960, Est: $600,000-800,000); a recently rediscovered painting by Robert Indiana (Love, 1965, Est: $150,000-250,000) from the Northern California Estate of Betsy B. Jones, a former painting and sculpture curator of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and an electronic sculpture by the acclaimed Bay Area artist Alan Rath (Scanner VI, 2003, Est. $6,000-8,000).

The event, which aims to further encourage the intersection of art and technology, is the first of its kind for Bonhams’ West Coast salesrooms.

On Bonham’s partnership with Neon, Sarah Nelson, Bonhams’ Contemporary Art Director, notes, “What we share with Neon is an interest in understanding what makes images compelling and memorable, which bears on connoisseurship in the marketplace.”

“Neon’s partnership with Bonhams is a unique opportunity to bring together the worlds of contemporary art and image technology,” said Dr. Sophie Lebrecht, CEO and co-founder of Neon. “Neon’s mission is to measure the engagingness and emotional resonance of images. We work closely with image editors and creatives every day, and are thrilled to support the work of these extraordinary contemporary artists.”

Seventy South Park, designed by the award-winning San Francisco architectural firm Ogrydziak/Prillinger, was commissioned by well-known San Francisco art collectors Richard Niles and Lenore Pereira. It operated as their private gallery where they hosted exhibits with Mills College and tours with Enterprise for High School Students’ Private Collections prior to Neon’s occupancy in January. The South Park neighborhood, a virtual extension of Silicon Valley, is home to several venture capital and tech startup companies and counts Google Ventures, among others as neighbors.

The preview is open to the public from 12pm-6pm on March 16, 9am-5pm on March 17, and 9am-2pm on March 18.
