What is Pinewood Derby?
First held in 1953 by Cub Scout’s in Manhattan Beach, California the Pinewood Derby begins with a wooden track and car that was made by each participant using a set of 4 uniform wheels and a block of wood.

What are the rules of traditional Pinewood Derby?
Each person is encouraged to create the racecar of their dreams within a set of basic rules. While everyone starts with the same elements the variety of creativity design and high tech engineering that can go into their construction is endless. What makes that so fast, what the f--- is that and will that even stay on the track are all questions that will be answered on Derby night.

The Derby consists of up to four racers starting by gravity from a standstill on a track and run down a ramp of over 30 feet in length to a finish line unaided. The track is an inclined ramp with wood strips down the center to guide the cars. Races speeds can reach up to 20 miles per hour!
If the Derby Cars and track were scaled up to life size the cars would reach up to 200 miles per hour!

Some Resources including places to get a Pinewood Derby kit for as little as $4.00
