If there were a Latino version of the The Departed, Pinata Protest would be the band raging away in the background, as vatos Jack Nicholson and Leonardo Dicaprio, plan their next move. Gutteral, speeding, sweaty, Flogging Molly-esque punk rock is fluidly fused with accordion-led, Norteno Tex Mex. The Mexican American experience is in your face and full of manic energy, as you see spinning, leaping moves of the band members singing of the Chicano experience, and drinking songs, in two languages. The traditional squeeze box is flanked by fiery guitars and intense drums. It's as intoxicating and intense as the worm at the bottom of a bottle of mezcal.
