World Beat often brings to mind African tribal drum circles or hip-shaking Latin dance music, but French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan has for 40 years explored the music of the world on his acoustic guitar. He subtly mixes elements of Celtic music, jazz, flamenco, folk and New Age, which he pulls off in sublime instrumental solo compositions. He effortlessly makes his guitar sound like a full band. It's amazingly technical, yet also gorgeous-and playful. He's touring on his latest album, Encore, a triple CD live record. (Aaron Carnes)
