If "rock & roll" now seems inherently retro, the Picturebooks have the potential to give the genre a much-needed boost of vitality. Their blues-rock riffs are familiar, yet arranged in a totally offbeat manner. They boast leather jackets, ride motorcycles, hang out in skate parks, sport some mean beards, and yet aren't part of the LA or New York scenes—they call Germany home. They've been quiet the last few years as they've lost their bass player, but rather than replace him they’ve reconfigured themselves into a guitar-drums based duo, and have amped up their sound as well.
