Pattern Language: Reflecting Place In Fabric With Kenya Miles

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Take inspiration from both the natural and human-made systems of the Marin Headlands in this pattern-making and natural dyeing project guided by Bay Area fiber artist Kenya Miles, of Traveling Miles Studio. Drawing from traditional methods and local materials, Miles will instruct on how to design abstract patterns inspired by the surroundings, as well as how to print or paint directly onto fabric with iron (ferrous sulfate), and create over-dye baths with tannin from local oak galls or tanoak bark. There will be plenty of time to create your unique, place-based textile works during the session, and the opportunity to bring textiles home to continue experimenting.
