A thrilling sci-fi adventure about two kids separated by opposing cultures and gravitational forces. While exploring a forbidden area in her underground world of abandoned ruins and tunnels, Patema tumbles into a void, and out into the wide-open world above the surface, where the laws of physics are reversed and she "falls” into the sky. A young student on the surface world, Age, discovers Patema hanging upside-down (or downside-up) from a tree and pulls her to safety. Acting as a counter-weight for one another, they master the art of navigating competing gravitational forces and set out to evade the totalitarian leaders that rule the surface world and discover the disastrous secret that keeps them apart.
