Description
Following in the do-it-yourself footsteps of Portland’s Burnside Project, Philadelphia’s FDR skatepark, San Diego’s Washington Street, San Pedro’s Channel Street skatepark and long fed up with the unchallenging Wormhoudt monopolized skateparks of northern California, a small group of Bay Area skaters championed a do-it-yourself cement park residing on Caltrans property at “Bordertown” (a neighborhood pocket in between Emeryville and Oakland.) The media recognized their tireless efforts, their diligent work ethos and the fact that the fruits of their labor have cleaned up a neighborhood once peppered with junkies, prostitution and other shamey indiscretions. As a result, the good people of Caltrans let the skaters keep the park. But there is still much work to be done.

This benefit is dedicated to all those who dared to roll up their sleeves and do what others said could not be done. Proceeds of this event will benefit the Bordertown project and the spirit to keep on sculpting more challenging terrain. Please come out and show your support - if not just for this project, then for the sensible notion that skateparks should be built by skateboarders. This evening features performances by Drunk Horse, Parchman Farm, Hightower and Clay Wheels.
