A backpacking weekend without having to drive hours away from bay area. The Sunset Trail Camp within Big Basin Redwoods State Park is one of the oldest state park located in Santa Cruz Mountains. It covers over 18,000 acres from sea level to more than 2000 feet of elevation.
The park is full of tallest and oldest ancient coast redwoods on Earth. Scientist estimate that these trees may range from 1,000 to 2,000 years old. With spectacular views of Pacific Ocean, lush waterfalls, glistening canyons, and awe-inspiring redwood trees, Big Basin is a perfect weekend backpacking trip for beginners as well as experienced backpackers.
Sunset Trail is 5.5 miles one way from the trailhead. It is within a close range of Berry Creek Canyon, Golden Cascade and Silver Falls. Time permitted we will check out all or some of these nearby attractions.
