The Midway Gallery is pleased to present Terrain: navigating landscapes, featuring: Mark Garrett, James Tucker, Tracey Kessler, Karina Bania, and Elisa Gomez; and performances by Alexa Eisner.
This innovative group of artists pushes the boundaries of their practice, redefining the representation of contemporary landscape in their diverse mediums. From the chaotic, and densely textured mixed-media pieces of Tracey Kessler, to Mark Garrett’s delicate topographical washes and surreal 3D murals. James Tucker exposes the printmaking process in his conceptual series, “process landscapes,” while Karina Bania visualizes the emotional landscapes of everyday life in her serene paintings.
Interpretations of new geographies will also include three breathtaking, large-scale paintings by abstract expressionist artist, Elisa Gomez. Created specifically for this show, Gomez’s pieces are a visual documentation of her months-long nomadic journey through the wilderness of seven U.S. states, during which she lived out of her converted Chevy Astro van.
Modern dancer, Alexa Eisner will be enacting a site-specific performance that will merge the art of dance and paint.
Terrain will be on view September 10 – October 22, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 10, from 6pm to 9pm with all artists in attendance. Guests will enjoy food and drink, as well as live music.
