Open Mike: Linda Geary’s Studio Visit

BAM/PFA Galleries. Included with admission

“The art world is basically you and me. There is no ‘us’ and ‘them.’ My interest has always been to have conversations with people in the studio.”—Linda Geary

Artist and California College of the Arts professor Linda Geary and contributors to her new book, Studio Visit, discuss ideas generated by the project in an open-mike forum. In 2011, Linda Geary visited one hundred Bay Area artists, writers, curators, and gallerists, bringing with her a stack of 285 color swatches that she painted as an experiment to see how many colors she could make without repetition. As part of each conversation, she asked each person to choose six colors. Later, she realized that she had asked each person to make a painting while they talked. Combined with her written recollections of each conversation, these subjective, fragmentary portraits constitute a singularly reflective representation of the Bay Area’s vibrant art community. Followed by a collective booksigning.
