Onstage Theatre opens the hysterical musical “REEFER MADNESS” written by Kevin Murphy & Dan Studney, October 28 at the Campbell Martinez Theatre. Directed by Randall Nott and produced by Helen Means. Musical Director Feona Lee Jones and Choreographer Hannah Fournier. The fast paced musical comedy “Reefer Madness” is inspired by the 1936 film.
According to Onstage Theatre's Artistic Director Helen Means, this highly stylized satire is in the vein of the current television show “South Park” and Tony Award winning musical “The Book of Mormon.” “It takes place in a small town where the town’s youth are lured by a new evil drug, marihuana, setting off a series of melodramatic episodes leading to the downfall of its youth.”
“It’s over the top comedy, music and dance,” said Jennifer Brown-Peabody who plays Mae, the hostess of the reefer den. Brown Peabody, who won a Best Actress Shellie Awards for her work in the Onstage Theatre’s production of “Mama Won’t Fly” and “Spots of a Leopard”, welcomes the chance to make people laugh. “It’s not a statement on “reefer.” It’s a satire about the government gaining control by going over the top.”
“Reefer Madness” contains adult humor and is not recommended for young children.
