One Eyed Doll: Austin, Texas is known for its varied music scene, so it's no surprise they've unleashed a band of rock and roll witches on the world. For nearly ten years One-Eyed Doll has been steadily releasing punk-inspired goth jams for an always growing group of fans. Hardened goths, internet gamers, and fashion punk fans alike will find something to love about One-Eyed Doll. The duo not only sounds great, they also cultivate the aforementioned witchy vibe which is a fun variation in the world of hard rock. Gothy, sweet, female-led rock bands are always something to have around when you want to get in the Halloween mood months early. Not to mention that band leader Kimberly Freeman has an odd combination of useful talents: she shreds, speaks Mandarin, and does voice acting for video games (the band has also contributed music for online RPG Adventure Quest). Grooves and darkness go hand in hand to create a prog-rock type of feeling that meshes well with the heavier musical moments on One-Eyed Doll tracks. Live, the duo dominates the stage. Kimberly channels her inner Lydia Deetz while being hella metal, interacting heavily with the audience, and stomping around the stage while playing her heavy guitar riffs. Her drummer and producer Rufus holds down the beat while making the One-Eyed Doll sound complete. The band isn't afraid to be loud, while Kimberly sings in an almost operatic style, adding screams, horror sound effects, and lyrics about whips and chains into the mix. It all combines to create a beautiful, compelling, cinematic, punk-horror goth sound. If you're wondering how that's even possible with only two people, just go see in person.
