Since 2011, this seven-piece punk-bluegrass band has fit the Fat Wreck Chords roster surprisingly well. Though the instrumentation is influenced by traditional bluegrass ensembles, the energy is all punk. Like labelmates Celtic-punk rockers, Real McKenzies, Old Man Markley are more punk rock than the traditional music to which they pay homage. Old Man Markley contributed a cover of "Feel Good Song of the Year" on the recently released Tony Sly tribute album. They reinvented it into a high-spirited bluegrass tune, complete with a wickedly fast fiddle and banjo. (Amulya Datla)
