Off the Screen: Robert Bloomberg’s 3-D Sideshow

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Behold a brilliant lineup of depth-defying shorts, rare treasures, low-budget labors, and dazzling studio magic presented by 3-D impresario Robert Bloomberg. These humorous and eye-popping works span over a century of stereoscopic cinema, from what is possibly the first (inadvertently created) 3-D film to award-winning, digital shorts. Don a complementary pair of 3-D glasses to view the nocturnal world of carnival rides, encounter feline secrets, learn how refrigerators really see us, and more.

Robert Bloomberg is a stereo photographer, filmmaker, musician, and graphic artist whose award-winning 3-D shows have been presented worldwide. He has been honored with a lifetime fellowship "For Distinguished Scholarship and Extraordinary Knowledge of Stereoscopy" by the National Stereoscopic Association and served for many years as its Regional Director for Northern California, as well as Stereo Technical Advisor for the Photographic Society of America.

Featuring:
How To Draw A Cat (2014, 6 min.) by Robert Bloomberg
Moving Still (2007, 2.30 min.) by Santiago Caicedo
A Geek Like Me (2013, 4 min.) by Jeff Boller
Journal d’un Frigo (Diary of a Fridge) (2011, 8:30 min.) by Joséphine Derobe
All Is Not Lost (2010, 4 min.) by OK Go, Pilobolus, and Trish Sie
Pieces of the Fair (2012, 3:30 min.) by Bob Venezia

In this series, we aim to test the boundaries of film through a hybrid of performance and inquiry-based programs centered on the moving image. These challenging programs target the local community while showcasing new films by artists, live-cinema experiences, and deepening collaborations with local partner organizations.
