The Red Poppy Art House is pleased to welcome Glenda Bates presents: Oboe-Tronics. An oboist for the contemporary world, Dr. Bates delves into the world of 21st century classical music. Seeking a marriage of electronic and acoustic sounds, Oboe-Tronics features electro-acoustic and solo works by vibrant, living composers.
The program presents the oboe, an archaic instrument, as a beacon of virtuosity and timbral expression for present-day composers and music lovers. Bates explores various types of contemporary classical music, from tonal minimalism and neo-romanticism to crooked atonal melodies and thumping electronic grooves.
Oboe-Tronics features works by Dutch avant-pop composer Jacob Ter Veldhuis, local Bay Area composers Mazdak Khamda and James Deitz, and New York composers Daria Semegen, Tomek Regulski, and Edward Rosenberg III.
