Oakland Music Festival

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Oakland’s story has remained largely untold, with the city’s rich culture of music and arts historically being overshadowed by the negative perceptions associated with "The Town". However, with the rising national attention being directed towards Oakland, there has never been a better time to highlight the people that make the City such an exciting and world-class destination. The Oakland Music Festival (OMF) is an effort to support this endeavor. Honoring Oakland’s diverse history, while promoting its culture of innovation and continued evolution, the Festival seeks to provide not only a stage, but a tangible economic and social impact to help drive and sustain this positive momentum.

On Friday, the 4th annual Oakland Music Festival (OMF) kicked off its first ever weeklong festival, featuring nine days of music, art, panels and workshops focused on sustaining, showcasing and fostering Oakland’s music and arts community and cultural authenticity.

This year’s headliners include groundbreaking and unique acts that span the electronic, hip-hop, and R&B genres, featuring heavy-hitters such as Masego, LAKIM (Soulection), Nick Catchdubs and Oakland’s own indie rockers The Tambo Rays and rapper/producer Jay Ant.

OMF expects to attract 4-5,000 attendees to Oakland’s downtown area over the span of the week. OMF aims to serve as a platform that will enable Oakland’s vibrant and historic music and art culture to thrive by creating a sustainable local creative economy that can support full time artists, a growing creative ecosystem of resources, and the local venues and businesses at the heart of this community.

------

For the first time since the festival’s start in 2013, OMF has expanded from a one-day street festival to a weeklong format, partnering with 12 venues across downtown Oakland to curate a comprehensive event series dedicated to highlighting Oakland’s diverse culture, while providing a platform to discuss and support the local creative community. The expanded format will include nine days of showcases, parties, community events, workshops, and panel discussions, that aim to fully encompass Oakland’s thriving music and arts scene.

Musical headliners include Masego, the highly acclaimed saxophonist, jazz vocalist, and producer known for captivating crowds as he creates songs on the fly in his uniquely crafted style of sound dubbed “Trap House Jazz,” the Bay’s own multi-talented rapper and producer extraordinaire Jay Ant (HBK Gang), legendary Los Angeles house and hip-hop pioneer Egyptian Lover, Fool’s Gold Records Co-founder Nick Catchdubs, and Soulection’s dance and hip-hop genre-bending producer LAKIM.

Oakland Music Festival 2016 will feature musical performances by: 8ulentia (Club Chai), Another Party Fam DJs, Anthony Ant, B-Side Brujas, Big Baby Gandhi, Black Spade, B-Side Brujas, Byron the Aquarius, Chris Turner, Chuy Gomez, DJ HeyLove, Down 2 Earth, Dreafauxreal, Elujay, Fela Kutchii, Gabriela, Jay Ant, Jay Stone, Joyce Wrice, Jusmoni, L-Deez, LAKIM, Masego, Mind Motion, Nanosaur, Namaste Shawty, Nick Catchdubs, Nick Jame$, Nina Sol, Otayo Dubb, Prozack Turner, Rayana J, Sazon Libre, Scott Charles Morgan, Show Banga, Sick Sad World, SiR, Stass Thee Boss, Suavecito Souldies, The Egyptian Lover, The Tambo Rays, Trackademicks, Trill Team 6, Turfinc, WAVBROS, and Yayuh.

In addition to the showcase events, OMF is hosting a series of panel discussions and workshops as part of the #OaklandMovingForward campaign, focused on promoting a sustainable creative economy in Oakland.
