Notes of a Native Song

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Tony and Obie Award-winning playwright/singer-songwriter Stew (Passing Strange) creates a collage of songs, text and video inspired by Baldwin’s brave and visionary proclivity for airing uncomfortable truths as celebratory events of poetry and beauty. Provocative themes will be attached to wonderfully catchy tunes with head-nodding grooves for your listening pleasure. Co-composed and performed with longtime collaborator Heidi Rodewald, Notes of a Native Song is a sweet-sounding homage to Baldwin created to coincide with what would have been his 90th birthday. Notes of a Native Song will be performed with their band The Negro Problem, a favorite of the Bay Area music scene.

First Nights at Curran: Thursday, December 3

First Night audiences will receive the chance to celebrate with the artists and Curran team immediately following the first performance, while enjoying complimentary beverages and light fare.

Talkback with Editor-at-Large Kevin Sessums, Saturday, December 5th, 2 PM

This performance of NOTES OF A NATIVE SONG features a post-show discussion led by Curran’s editor-at-large, Kevin Sessums. Stew will answer questions from Kevin Sessums and discuss his process for creating this show.
