Appearing Stateside for the first time in 7 years, England's the Nightingales are bringing their post-punk "Beefheart lurch" and "Stooges stomp" to the U.S. West Coast.
Born of Birmingham's original punk group, The Prefects, Nightingales are described as "The misfit's misfits." An uncompromising, confrontational contemporary group, Nightingales centers around lyricist/singer Robert Lloyd who is supported by a powerful trio including Prefects guitarist Alan Apperley, Faust's bassist Andreas Schmid and former Violet Violet drummer Fliss Kitson.
Nightingales' new record, "Mind Over Matter" is a short, sharp blast of melody, rhythm, irritation and humour - heady, fresh and invigorating.
Supporting is Oakland's angular post-punk experimentalists, Surplus 1980 - led by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum's Moe! Staiano.
