Naomi Shihab Nye is the author or editor of more than thirty volumes of poetry, essays, and stories, most recently, There Is No Long Distance Now (2011) and Transfer (2011). Her work has won numerous awards, including a Lavan Award from the Academy of American Poets, four Pushcart Prizes, and two Jane Addams Children’s Book Awards, and her collection 19 Varieties of Gazelle was a finalist for the National Book Award. She has been a Lannan Fellow and a Guggenheim Fellow, and in January 2010, she was elected to the Board of Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets.
