In 2003, amidst the ashes of San Francisco's dot-com bust, Needles & Pens opened it's doors to quickly become a hub of the city's re-awakened art scene. As an instigator of grass-roots culture N&P has pushed beyond the boundaries of the city to become an institution that supports an international scope of artists, writers and craftspersons. Ten years later N&P has exhibited hundreds of artists, emerging and established, curated over 85 exhibitions, published half a dozen books and hosted countless readings, performances and musical events.
For this momentous anniversary 66 artists from varying disciplines have been assembled into an exhibition that captures the continuing legacy and spirit of San Francisco's unique art scene. These artists, who have been involved with the space throughout the years, cohere to a do-it-yourself ethos based on folk wisdom and a dedicated love of contributing to the community and world around them. It is with the same hearty, creative energy that Needles & Pens has operated, and will continue to for years to come.
Please join us on May 10, 2013 at The Luggage Store Gallery for a group exhibition, book release, and celebration of Needles & Pens first decade.
