Johnny Soultrain
Formed in late 2013 in a garage in Oakland by Steele "Ed Freedom" French, Phil Linfoot, Maxwell Stern, Dave Horn, and Julian Honowitz from the remnants of previous East-Bay bands, as well as a few late and alcohol-fueled nights, Johnny Soultrain made their debut on the Bay Area music scene. Despite each coming from a myriad of musical backgrounds, the five found themselves united by a love of funk, blues, soul, and garage rock. Julian Honowitz helped the boys to recruit additional horn players Matt Calvert and Brad Mundell to round out the horn section, and Johnny Soultrain became the 7-peice they are today.
Vanwave
Hailing from San Francisco, Vanwave’s sound is that of the modern sirens call, infused with electric guitar leads, and folk inspired harmonies. Their dreamy sound is a result of their native northern and southern California roots. Most recently they’ve added member Allison Kane on keys and now have Sea on percussion, creating a special dynamic between four leading women.
Ellisa Sun
Ellisa has been singing since the age of 9 and playing guitar since the age of 15, but was always too afraid to sing in front of people. She did not begin writing original songs and performing until she moved to San Francisco at the age of 23. Ellisa began songwriting and singing as a form of therapy and storytelling, using her words and voice to release mental and emotional energy. When she formed her band with drums, upright bass, lead guitar and saxophone, her sound grew richer and fuller--incorporating Jazz, Soul, and R&B with Rock and Folk undertones. Ellisa aims to draw parallels to Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, and Lauryn Hill.
