Twenty years ago, Natalie Merchant parted ways with her longtime 10,000 Maniacs bandmates and released her first solo effort, the 1995 multi-platinum selling Tigerlily. In the two decades since, both she and the songs from Tigerlily have matured and changed together, so last summer, Merchant re-recorded the 11 songs with different arrangements, inspired by how they had evolved over time in the live setting.

The film is a memoir-style look at the impact of those songs and the role they have played in shaping not only the artist but her fans as well. Merchant's entire musical career is encapsulated in this very personal film, which delves into the music through live performances, archival footage, and interviews. Her fellow musicians, friends, and impassioned fans share how the songs of Tigerlily have influenced them over the past two decades.

Along with her music career, Merchant remains dedicated to a wide array of social justice and environmental causes as well as the arts. In 2005 she served a four-year term on the 20-member board of New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Recently her attention has been focused on the threats to public health and the environment posed by the natural gas extraction technique of hydraulic fracturing. In 2013 she spearheaded the making of a protest concert film, Dear Governor Cuomo, with New Yorkers Against Fracking, actors Mark Ruffalo and Melissa Leo, and filmmakers Jon Bowermaster and Alex Gibney. In 2014 Merchant directed and produced SHELTER: A Concert Film to Benefit Victims of Domestic Violence.

----------

Singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant played with 10,000 Maniacs for 12 years before going out on her own. This year, she released her first studio album, "Leave Your Sleep," in seven years. The 2-disc CD set uses a variety of wide-ranging styles to examine the emotions of child-rearing. Many of the songs are based on famous poems by ee. cummings, Hopkins and other. Her performance will include both acoustic and orchestral versions of some of the new songs.
There is a diner package available.
