From the intrepid musical adventurer, Myra Melford, comes the world premiere of the powerful, multi-sensory experience, Language of Dreams. Drawing inspiration from the composer’s deep fascination with Genesis, a 1982 novel by Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano, Melford incorporates music, movement, and video imagery to invoke reflection and provoke dialogue about our collective histories and our path forward as “Americans.” Language of Dreams was commissioned by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and includes artistic collaborators Ron Miles (cornet), Liberty Ellman (acoustic guitar), Stomu Takeishi (acoustic base guitar), Jeff Davis (percussion), dancer/choreographer Oguri, video artist David Szlasa, and Galeano’s text spoken by vocalist Sofia Rei.
Sat, Nov 9, 11 AM – 1 PM

Dancer Oguri will lead explorations designed to sharpen focus and develop the scope of expression through the body. The work encompasses sensitivity training and discovery of movement from images. No prior dance experience needed.
