Released on Vice Records, 10/10/06
By lynne angel (Nov 2, 2006)
This is a headphones album. One of those "pop it in your media player of choice and turn it way up" albums. The opening song, “Come Out (Come Down, Fade Out, Be Gone), begins with a distant siren, steady heartbeats of drums and slight electrocutions of sound interjected here and there. The beats thicken, the sound swells, and the vocals kick in. It’s classic, timeless, a perfect execution of the slow build electro-dance rock song. 120 Days have successfully combined the worlds of early eighties experimental electronic music with seventies rock and nineties drone -- and it’s actually pretty good! More

An Interview
By Jeremy Sampson (Dec 31, 2004)
Brace yourself: it's the ultimate indie rock cliché! Local band 20 Minute Loop isn't in it for the money or fame. They're in it for the music, man. Yeah, we know -- you've heard this one before. Countless times, we're sure. This time it just might be true. More

A conversation with frontman Jared Leto
By Roger Thomasson (Nov 18, 2005)
It's a tough crowd, the music press. Quick to judge and even quicker to dismiss, the critical machine can unfairly and often permanently typecast a band. Imagine the added pressure of being part of one of the most ridiculed sub-genres in music. Imagine being lumped in with the likes of Dogstar, The Bacon Brothers, and Russell Crowe's 30 Odd Foot of Grunts. Imagine being (gasp!) an actor with a band. More

Remixed
By matthew thayer (Jun 3, 2005)
I spoke with Bebel from her home in Manhattan. More than an interview, this was a friendly conversation with the woman who introduced Brazilian bossa nova to a new generation of listeners. If you never knew, Bebel is the daughter of João Gilberto and Miúcha, the royalty of Brazilian's sensual pop music. Bebel's first album, Tanto Tempo, was an international best seller. Her second self-titled album was released last year. Our conversation took place on the eve of the release of Remixed, dance versions of Bebel's Grammy nominated sophomore album. More

Released on Virgin Records, 7/17/2007
By Matt Forsman (Jun 14, 2007)
A red haired, piercingly green eyed siren helms the band known as A Fine Frenzy. Allison Sudol is said siren. Strikingly beautiful, she’d make just about anyone swoon with a brief fleeting gaze. Fortunately, Sudol is not a one trick pony. Her vertigo inducing appearance is matched by powerful pipes and a poignant musical sensibility that just may elevate Allison and the rest of her fine frenzy into public consciousness. More

Not So Silent Night was known for a good party but I was told that this might be the best line-up yet...The Mouse didn’t curate this one but 105 did a fine job bringing similar tastes to the BG Auditorium. The red-nosed reindeer glowing above the stage signaled to everyone there was going to be something magical happening on this night. More

10,000 Pound Turntables
By Matt Crawford (Jul 10, 2009)
Since scratching his way to the top of the competitive DJ circuit as a teenager in the mid-90s, A-Trak has rocked parties worldwide, created his own record label and served as Kanye West’s touring DJ. The DJ/producer, who is in the conceptual planning stages for his first album, stops in San Francisco on his 10,000 Pound Hamburger Tour on July 16th. He spoke with SF Station on a pit stop in Pensacola, FL during a drive from Miami to Austin. More

Released by Fabric Records, 4/13/09
By David Johnson-Igra (May 8, 2009)
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

With one look at A-Trak’s resume -- Kanye’s DJ, youngest to win the DMC Title, former member of Invisibl Skratch Piklz and The Allies -- it’s easy to say he’s one of the top DJs in the world. On FabricLive.45 he beat matches, scratches, and mixes to such perfection that he blends so many genres like nu-disco, electro-house and Detroit techno into a subtle eclectic remix of a remix of a remix. More

Get Guilty, the second solo release from A.C. Newman, perhaps better known for fronting pop sensations The New Pornographers, recruits the help of Jon Wurster (Superchunk/Mountain Goats), Mates of State and Nicole Atkins to help develop a sound both vastly immense and explicitly precise. There is a certain amount of familiarity within the song structures and lyrical flow, something any New Pornographers fan would recognize, but where that project would have let the dramaticism of the song take the lead, Newman is able to bridle this emotion into something more intimate, something more real. More

Indie Rockers Return for Treasure Island Music Fest
By Matt Crawford (Aug 31, 2007)
Less than a month after an intimate gig with a string section at Café Du Nord to celebrate the release of Mentor Tormentor, Earlimart return to San Francisco for the second day of the Treasure Island Music festival, a two-day musical extravaganza featuring Modest Mouse, Thievery Corporation, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist, and Built to Spill, among others.
