Monterey Symphony Concert IV

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Monterey Symphony takes inspiration from the Aurora Borealis in this concert that is epical in its presentation of exoticism, lost fortune, and the serenity of the northern skies. Violinist Judith Ingolfsson returns to the Monterey Symphony to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major. Among the composer’s most popular works, the concerto showcases his natural talent for lyricism, while challenging the most gifted violinists. Carl Maria von Weber’s Turkish-inspired Abu Hassan Overture is widely performed and recorded. Based on a story from One Thousand and One Nights, this comic opera revels in the intrigue of the Caliph’s palace, unrequited love, and lost fortune. The northern lights return in the resplendent Symphony No. 5 in E-flat Major by Sibelius, celebrating the composer’s 50th birthday! Considered by many to be a master symphonist, Sibelius’ work begins with gentle serenity and builds to a dramatic climax.
