MOON BOOTS / NICK MONACO / PAPA LU
10:00 pm (event ends at 3:00 am)
MOON BOOTS
Moon Boots entered the world in the mid-1980s via Cape Canaveral. After years of service as the preferred footwear of celebrity astronauts (notably Tom Hanks), Moon Boots came to life during a classified experiment aboard the International Space Station. Little is known of what actually transpired aboard the shuttle, but in short, Moon Boots became a sentient creature, equipped with reason, intuition, and groove.
Before long, he grew tired of working for the space-military-industrial complex and found solace in the soothing sounds of underground disco and R&B boogie records. He knew it was only of matter of time before he was hung up like so many boots before him. He abandoned the program and used his savings to build a studio in an unnamed location, where he is currently working.

NICK MONACO
Nick Monaco is here to take you back.... and move you forth.
In the year 1990 Nick Monaco was conceived by two passionate lovebirds in the mystical depths of the Grand Canyon, it was known then that this boy was destined to make magic himself. Nick is a 90's baby from Northern California’s Bay Area. He likes long walks on the beach, appreciates sunshine, bass and abides by his personal philosophy: the weirder, the funkier, the better.
Rocking house parties is how Nick spent most weekends in his not so distant adolescence. Thank G-O-D for out of town parents! While his peers fussed over iPod playlists, Monaco busted in with crates of wax and brought down the spot, learning to win the crowds in true school style.
As a freshman in high school, Monaco was obsessed with turntablism and anything with the words Hip and Hop in it. Locking himself in his bedroom with his decks he scratched his fingers numb for more than 5 hours a day. Practice seemed to make perfect as he was soon sought after for his innovative scratches by the all-time extraterrestrial DJ Qbert who asked for Monaco's contribution for the instructional glossary “Scratchlopedia Breaktannica.” (Available online!)
Nick will tell you himself, he is as much influenced by Deee-Lite as he is by Elliot Smith and you can really hear it in his wide and eclectic musical tastes. The Soul Clap boys would agree. They received a demo from Monaco in 2011, which featured "Set the Table," and were blown away by its quirkiness, innocence, and originality. Since then they have adopted him as a part of the Soul Clap family and have saved a seat for him on the mothership, Soul Clap Records.
Claude VonStroke over in the offices of Dirty Bird Records has also taken a shining to Monaco. When Nick kicked off 2012 with "Long Kiss Goodnight (Soul Clap Edit)," it was signed to Dirtybird's "Hatched" compilation; a meaningful gesture electing him to represent the future of his native Bay Area. Currently Nick Monaco is making his transition from big bass to deeper, emotional, and more musical explorations, a sign of maturity and growth, the fruit of which we are soon to taste.

Papa Lu
Born and raised in the San Francisco, Bay Area, Ca. Papa Lu had the chance to absorb all styles of music from Hip Hop to house as an adolescent. His first passion was with Hip Hop. As soon as he graduated from High School he dove right into the business of throwing Hip Hop shows at a venue called The DNA Lounge. He worked with some of the most classic artists of the true school era like Digable Planets, Digital Underground, Gang Starr, Kool Keith, Dj QBert, Jumi, Grand Wisord Theordore, and many more. During that time period more than a handful house music pioneers like Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Dj Sneak, Kaskade, Heather, Colette, etc were making their waves at that same venue and that's where Papa Lu had learned to love house music. Becoming a house music aficionado Papa Lu had then decided to make the transition into producing quality house music events. He still to this day produces a party named Night Moves at Monarch SF and other events as well in a few of the other fine established clubs of San Francisco. He's worked with artists such as Danny Daze, Jimmy Edgar, Poolside, Amine Edge & Dance, Doctor Dru, Walker & Royce, Lazaro Casanova, Claptone, Juan MacLean, Fur Coat, Crazy P, Noir, Moon Boots, John Tejada, J Boogie, Deejay Theory, Pacific Disco, etc. In the process of becoming deeply involved and passionate with finding new cutting edge artists to book Papa Lu cultivated himself as a quality dj opening and closing for the artists named above and is now in high demand to be added to other local events and more. For Papa Lu, his career as an innovative house dj has just nearly started an budding well. His production with Bryan Boogie (LifeSF/ 2nd Sunday) is in progress and expected to make a lot of traction.
