Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District

City , Organization , Park / Open Space

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District mission is to acquire and preserve a regional greenbelt of open space land in perpetuity; protect and restore the natural environment; and provide opportunities for ecologically sensitive public enjoyment and education.

The district has permanently protected nearly 50,000 acres of open space land in 25 open space preserves on the San Francisco peninsula, from San Carlos to Los Gatos. Diverse environments at the preserves include redwood forests, oak woodlands, chaparral-covered hillsides, and shoreline along San Francisco Bay. The preserves are open to the public free of charge, 365 days a year. The district's volunteers are involved in a variety of activities, including trail patrol, resource management, interpretation, and environmental education.
