SF Station Blows It Up
By Misha Vladimirskiy (06/23/2006)

" Walking into 330 Ritch on any Thursday night is to indulge yourself in rock, punk, indie or just plain good music. On this night a band called Elephone was performing for the CD release of The Camera Behind The Camera Behind The Camera. I will say I was not disappointed, these guys rocked the house with a sound that mixes My Bloody Valentine with U2 (pre "WAR"), and some other stuff that I can't put my finger on. With haunting vocals and driving guitar these guys are on my go to list. "

SF Station Blows It Up
By Misha Vladimirskiy (06/23/2006)

" The Fillmore played host to The Fiery Furnaces on this warm night in San Francisco. The crowd was made up of hipster kids with their cool hair and slick cloths, and people that were dressed in full masquerade garb. Standing in the middle of this crowd I had a feeling this might be good one and I have to admit that it was. With their dashes of folk, garage rock and a heavy European sound, they opened my eyes and ears and made me get lost in their lyrics. "

As easy as it is for Dunlap to deconstruct his iconic depictions of virtue and vice, there's a deeper resonance within the cartoonish nature of his work that arises from the unsettling but inevitable acceptance of life's temptations. There's also a not-so-subtle sense of humor and irony evident from both the colorful, rubbery style of his subjects and the seemingly incongruent subtitles that often accompany them... "
