Mes Morado celebrates “El Cristo Moreno” during the month of October in Peru, and is the heart of this joyous show sharing Danza y Musica Negra! Artistic Director Juan de DIos Soto, is accompanied by Choreographer Lydia Soto and Lead Vocalist, Rocio Soto in creation of this special tribute of El Mes Morado.
Mes Morado in Peru refers to the month of October when “El Cristo Moreno” is celebrated. Jaranon y Bochinche will perform a collection of Afro-Peruvian dances and music in tribute to this festivity. Jaranon y Bochinche Dance and Music Performance Company is an Afro-Peruvian company that developed in 1995 out of the Tradicion Peruana Cultural Center. Their repertoire consists of a diversity of dances and music from the Afro-Peruvian culture.
The artistic philosophy of Jaranon y Bochinche has been developed by its unique Soto brother and sister team and their families’ Afro-Peruvian roots. Raised with dance and music in their home, the Sotos have continued their traditions in the United States, collaborating in creative ways to share their cultural knowledge with the San Francisco Bay Area.
