Menlo Park Sidewalk Arts and Crafts Fall Fest

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Downtown Menlo Park plays host to the Menlo Park Sidewalk Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, October 2 from 10 am to 5 pm. This 20th annual art-filled family event gives visitors the opportunity to browse and shop among many one-of-a-kind creations lovingly crafted by a variety of talented artists and displayed in the charming atmosphere of downtown Menlo Park.

Taking place along Santa Cruz Avenue off El Camino Real, the Sidewalk Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest is free to the public and features an exciting array of original works by more than 50 artists and craft makers including paintings, jewelry, photography, unique wood items, clothing, accessories, toys and much more. All of the artists will be on hand to visit with patrons while some will be demonstrating their craft during the show. Among the works to be displayed at this year’s event:

Glass
All of Josh Fradis’ artwork represents the dedicated effort he’s put into his skills as a glass artist over the past 15 years. “I learn something new about the glass every time that I work with it,” he says. “I absorb the world around me and take the bits and pieces that I want…and put it into my artwork.” Josh fell in love at first sight when he stepped into the glassblowing studio in college. The fluidity, motion, movement, and outcome of transforming something clear and liquid into something beautiful and solid all attributed to his immediate fondness of the art form. His creations are decorative pieces that feature beautiful, bright colors and fun shapes.

Ceramics
John Reiger’s pottery is made of stoneware clay, one of the stronger clays -- only porcelain is stronger. He crafts everything from kitchen bowls to bathroom soap holders and all of his creations can be used in an oven or microwave and is dishwasher safe. “My work is always functional stoneware pottery,” says John. “It is decorated in the Majolica style, with images of flowers, trees, and sunshine. I particularly enjoy finding unusual things to make: things like pin cushions, kitchen sponge holders, clocks, dip coolers, paper cup dispensers, etc.”
One of John’s more unusual and useful items is a "Dip Cooler,” a small bowl set on top of a larger bowl. The top bowl holds your favorite, perishable dip (or a dip that simply tastes better chilled) and the bottom bowl is filled with ice. The result is a pretty, handcrafted vessel filled with fresh, chilled dip, enjoyable to both the eye and the palate.

Painting
Paula Riley has painted for many years, but it is only recently that it has become her passion. “I am devoted to the expression found in the brush or palette knife through the application of paint,” she says. “…I like to paint objects and landscapes which are joyful and exciting to me - and hopefully to the viewer.” Paula is interested in light and shadow, in warm and cool, and texture. She strives to take her paintings beyond what is seen by the eye, and to

create a mood or feeling through color and composition. The works of the great Impressionists, and later those of Expressionists, have influenced Paula’s painting.
