Legendary Masanori Murakami (“Mashi”) returns to the U.S., fifty years after his debut in 1964 as the first Japanese player in the Major League. He joins author Robert Fitts for the book release tour of Mashi, The Unfulfilled Baseball Dreams of Masanori Murakami, The First Japanese Major Leaguer (University of Nebraska Press, 2015), to debut in Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose, from June 28th to July 11th. "It's a chance of a lifetime to come back after 50 years to visit with my American friends and fans," reflects Murakami. The left-handed pitcher moved up from the Fresno minor league team to the SF Giants with a consistent record and a promising career. Mashi is the story of an unlikely hero who gets caught up in an American and Japanese baseball dispute and is forced to choose between his dreams in the United States or his duty in Japan.
