This daylong course will provide an introduction to the Jhanas, or Meditative Absorptions, which are a method of one pointed concentration that is taught in Theravada Buddhism. This course will cover: what the jhanas are, how the Buddha intended them to be used, and a brief introduction to how one goes about entering these states. No one should expect to learn or experience a jhana during such a short course because a longer retreat is usually needed for that. But, the course will provide a detailed overview of the jhanas and will include time for meditation when the basic instructions will be practiced.
About the Teacher: Leigh Brasington has been practicing meditation since 1985 and is the senior American student of the late Ven. Ayya Khema. She confirmed his practice and requested that he start to teach. Leigh has assisted Ven Ayya Khema since 1994 and has been leading retreats in Europe and in North America since 1997.
