About...
MAURICE TANI & 77 EL DEORA feat. PAM BRANDON
San Francisco’s Maurice Tani has been a fixture on the local alt-country scene for more than a decade with his band 77 El Deora, and previously sang and played guitar for the seminal Motown-style party bands Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra and Big Bang Beat. The San Francisco Chronicle has praised his “twangy modern country sound” and called his songs “wry yet romantic, tender but aggressive.” His band includes Mike Anderson on bass, Randy Craig on piano, Ken Owen on drums, and guest vocalist Pam Brandon.

Maurice recently released two albums—a studio recording with 77 El Deora called Blue Line, and Two Stroke, a collection of acoustic duos with his bassist, Mike Anderson. The website No Depression calls the sound “hillbilly noir” – “at once familiar, ethereal and beautiful.” Maurice calls it “cinema for the blind.” His music paints vivid pictures of the darker side of human relationships – but even at its darkest, it swings. Scott Bloom of The Bay Twang says, “This music is neither retro nor country; it’s twang noir. A fully realized universe, on a dark night, with an AM radio station sending out a strong signal from somewhere down Highway 99. Are you listening?”

LITTLE LONELY
Missouri-born, Los Angeles-based storyteller, Little Lonely (a.k.a. Julie Cain), provides a soundtrack for the forgotten American landscape. Otherworldly intoxicating and full of longing, her music evokes a time out of balance. It’s equal parts mirth and quiet reflection from the heartland.

This album is as good as anything the major labels have put out in the past 50 years. As far as I’m concerned, she is already a star. She doesn’t need a major label. She just needs to be heard.” Segarini: Don’t Believe A Word I Say

“One of the best indie-folk releases of 2013. 4.5 out of 5 stars. This one is a must, folks.” The Daily News, PA

“Willie, Cash and Emmylou at their thoughtful, poetic best, walk some of the same streets.” International Review of Music

“This is the archetypal blue collar heroine. As of right now, the competition is ON for album of the year. Essential. ” RUST Magazine

“Little Lonely’s raspy, haunting twang conjures an alternate universe where Chan Marshall and Julee Cruise might hang together at a lost roadside honky tonk smoking cigarettes and playing sad country songs on the jukebox.” Kim Grant, Turnstyled Junkpiled.

HEARTACHE SISTERS
Adventurous Americana duet, Heartache Sisters, initially began in the Fall of 2013 as a streamlined street team to spread the gospel of their 5-piece classic country band, Laura Benitez & the Heartache, and perform the group’s music in a stripped down manor. Soon the Berkeley/Oakland, California duo began mixing in Laura Benitez’s (ex-The Cottonpickers) new songs (that touch on folk music and include a stunning murder ballad) and Michele Kappel-Stone’s (ex-Kirby Grips/Tippy Canoe) fiery power pop and 60s girl group influenced originals. They unite the variety of roots and rock rhythms with their searing close harmony singing and emotional live performances. This former side project has grown into its own sharp entity leading to the release of original music and videos and to upcoming tours In early 2014 Maurice Tani (77 El Deora/Roy Loney & the Phantom Movers/Zasu Pitts Memorial Orch.) produced, recorded and added his inimitable playing style to their debut singles.

"The duo's voices blend well, they can play multiple instruments, they exude fun and look great doing it. Think Shovels & Rope crossed with Loretta Lynn and you start to get an idea of what the Heartache Sisters have going on." Deborah Crooks' Bird In The Tree Blog/No Depression
