Matt Jaffe & The Distractions

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Matt Jaffe & The Distractions
MATT JAFFE is a 20 year old singer/songwriter from the San Francisco Bay Area. With influences ranging from The Clash, Elvis Costello, and Talking Heads to Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Fela Kuti, Matt performs regularly throughout the Bay Area, SoCal and NYC. Matt was ‘discovered’ playing solo at an open mic by ex-Talking Head JERRY HARRISON, who has helped mentor and create Matt’s unique sound. In bringing the ambitions of the studio to rambunctious life onstage, Matt sought out the youthful rhythm section of ALEX COLTHARP and SAMMIE FISCHER and guitarist ALEX NEWELL to round out the Distractions. Together with acclaimed producer MATTHEW KING KAUFMAN (Jonathan Richman, Greg Kihn, The Rubinoos) and A&R vet MICHAEL CAPLAN they have completed Matt’s first EP of original music - BLAST OFF - released in April 2015. The Marin IJ said "With... this rather sensational debut, Jaffe could very well be blasting off to the kind of break-out success his talent deserves." DiffuserFm said "Jaffe has perfected his modern take on rockabilly, new wave and indie pop-punk-rock, fusing them together for an unforgettable listening experience on his brand new EP with the Distractions, Blast Off."

Sugar Ponies
As of April 2015 the 'Ponies have started recording with multi-platinum and grammy winning producer, Ed Stasium. That record is expected to drop in early fall!!
The Sugar Ponies are often asked what genre is their music.
It's kind of hard to nail it down to an existing genre, so they made up their own genre called altPOPcountryFolkROCK.
The Sugar Ponies are a band based out of San Francisco, California. Suzanne Kramer and Michael McGovern make up the core of the band and write most of the songs.
Suzanne's background in music consists of 70s pop, jazz and country music. She's the product of influences such as Lucinda Williams, Patty Loveless, Patti Cathcart, Kenny Loggins, and Paul Simon... to name a few. Michael's musical influences include XTC's Andy Partridge, Pete Townshend and Mike Campbell.
Some guest artist who have performed with the Ponies include; Tim Vaughan, Jesse Brewster, Allyson Paige, Tony Glaser, Max Delany, Andrew Gibson, Pete Mrdjenovich, Mick Shaffer, Dovovan Plant, Alan Monasch, Chris Wagner, Dave Whitaker, Bill Fried, and Dennis Heneda.
In studio we've had the late, great Paul van Wageningen, Edo Castro, Jim Kassis, Aaron Leigh, Wally Schnalle, Ari Rios, Rebecca Roudman, Austin de Lone, and Tim Vaughan.

Tom Rhodes
When you strip away the fluff of pop, throw out the country flair, remove the cynicism of alternative, and turn up the beauty of americana, you begin to have an idea of where Tom’s music falls. Tom Rhodes plays real, honest music that dives down to the heart of the matter and holds you there until you realize it’s where we all belong. With his latest release, “With or Without” (2014), Tom has moved his music further back on the dial and created a warm place for his raspy road worn voice and deceptively simple guitar.
Since his first self titled solo release in 2004, Tom has put out three more albums – each with a sound of its own. “No Apologies” (2006) moves from rock to reggae to country within 15 songs. “Better Son” (2011) planted footing in the Alt-Country/Folk scene, gaining nods as one of the top 20 albums of 2011 (AMDWHH) and Top 5 Country albums (Nerve.com). With his latest release, there is another turn: bringing in big vocal harmonies and an amazing backing band.
Originally from Houston, Texas, Tom grew up mostly in the DC area playing in bars and clubs at 16. He moved to New York City in late 2003 where he came into his own as a solo artist and songwriter, releasing two albums there. In 2006, he moved to Wilmington, NC where he worked on writing and getting his songs published on Network TV, Cable, and independent movies. In 2011, he and his wife and dog Barkley sold almost everything that they owned and packed up to move out to San Francisco, CA where they now reside.
Tom continues to play shows all over the United States and Europe with his new band, looking for new audiences to help spread his music and loves making new friends along the way. With hundreds of unreleased songs, and thousands of stories still waiting to be told, there will be years of content to come from this life-long troubadour.
