The only privately taught classical sculpture class in San Francisco AND with only seven students!
Most of us have explored crayons and paints but few have been introduced to the magical world of sculpture. If you have always wondered how it would feel like to have clay between your fingers, and experience the magical transformation from a clump of clay to a recognizable human shape, this is the class for you. I have been teaching this class since 1996 and have given sculpture demonstrations at the Legion of Honor Museum. This class has evolved into so much more than learning basic human anatomy; it is the foundation for all visual arts and just as important, it will be three hours of fun and relaxation.
We have yet to find a subject more eloquent, visually stimulating, complex and challenging than the human figure. We may begin with basic human anatomy lessons, but we culminate in acquiring knowledge on design, balance, proportions, surface modeling and much more. You will learn the correct way to “see” a three dimensional object in order to capture many of the infinite profiles the human figure offers. In addition you will gain experience using various sculpting tools, modeling techniques, building an armature, hollowing and preparation of your sculpture before firing. We hire a professional model for the entire duration of the class.
No prior experience is necessary so please don’t feel intimidated if you have never sculpted before.
One of the unique and best features of this class, which you don’t get in most other art classes, is that it is a small class of only seven students; therefore you will be able to move around and close to the model at your convenience, allowing you to see details. You will also be able to receive plenty of individual attention. It’s OK to miss 2-3 classes, most students do and we end up most of the times hiring the model for extra make-up classes. Duration: We meet once a week for (12) twelve sessions. 36 hours total
