“. . . [The] core of the Russian repertory is infused with a direct emotional appeal. . . Gergiev is seeking a gut connection between the music and the audience.” The Guardian

Gergiev and his Mariinsky Orchestra go to the soul of Russian music.

Music: Prokofiev
Choreography: Alexei Ratmansky

One of the most revered companies in classical dance, the Mariinsky Ballet has endured as a bastion of arts excellence and innovation for more than two centuries. The company presents one of the most celebrated works in its repertoire, Alexei Ratmansky's Cinderella. Commissioned for the Mariinsky in 2002, the production launched the choreographer to international stardom, earning him a reputation for revitalizing classic ballet with urbane sophistication and modern storytelling.

Ratmansky's enchanting version of the fairy tale draws its drama from the wellspring of Prokofiev's glorious, bittersweet score performed by the unparalleled Mariinsky Orchestra. Prokofiev is at his storytelling best in his elegant, enchanting scores for ballet. Passions both tender and raw, and emotions that begin in turmoil, then rise and crest in an apogee of triumph.
