Making Movies call themselves a "psychedelic latin" band. The quartet is lead by the Chi Brothers, the dread-wearing, guitar-strumming, lead vocalist, Enrique, and the subdued and steady bass player, Diego. The two split their childhood between Santiago, Panama and Kansas City, MO, and soaked up musical influences along the way that have seeped into their own sound. They mix angsty alternative melodies, cooing background vocals and galloping bongo drums to create one-of-a-kind bilingual jams. For their live show on NPR, their Guadalajaran percussionist Juan Carlos performed a Mariachi tap dance to ground their final tune, a telling example of the band's tendency to take risks, and ability to pull them off.
