Back by popular demand, Magic at the Rex is an evening of mystery, wonderment and laughs.
In an intimate nightclub setting in the parlor at the classic Hotel Rex, you will be up close and
personal with every flick of the wrist and wave of a hand of Adam Sachs and Sebastian Boswell
Sebastian Boswell III is a most remarkable man who does fantastic things. As Mr. Boswell
would modestly admit, words cannot do justice to his performance of unusual feats he has
learned in his travels over the world; suffice to say that you will be riveted. Close-up Magician
Adam Sachs is as nimble with his fingers as he is with his wit. Writing in the New York Times,
William Safire described Adam as a "wise guy, wiseacre." Adam is sophisticated and refined,
but he sheds that before the shows begin.
Magic at the Rex consists of two acts, each distinct and each highlighting a different foray in
magic and performance style. First, a classic close up act where you will want to sit as close as
possible and listen to every word. Second, an act of extraordinary feats of the mind and body,
where you will wonder, "Were those just tricks or has my perception of reality been forever
altered?" The show will occasionally feature a third act with a guest magician. While Adam
and Sebastian have long careers in magic, the only thing they have in common is that they will
astound you, entertain you, and leave you laughing.
The Hotel Rex, which takes its style from literary salons of the 1920s and 30s, is excited about
the return of Magic at the Rex, with a light twist: the Rex is opening its Parlor as the home of
the magic. Magic at the Rex in the intimacy of the parlor conjures up the feeling of being an
exclusive guest in a private library. The Hotel Rex features an eclectic menu of comfort foods
and healthy northern California dishes by Chef Elvin Sanchez and a cocktail menu designed by
Dave Wagner. Guests coming early or staying after the show can also relax in the Library Bar,
an escape to an earlier era, in the midst of a library of over 1000 books.
