MAY 1, 6pm - MAY 31, 8pm -- KODAKAN, Pilipinos in the City
Location: I-Hotel Manilatown Center, 868 Kearny St., SF

Inspired by images in the book Filipinos in San Francisco, Artists Wilfred Galila and Peggy Peralta have created a series of 600+ photographs and video images of the contemporary Pilipino community by juxtaposing images of “then and now.”


MAY 1, 6pm - 9pm -- Festival Opening Reception
Location: I-Hotel Manilatown Center, 868 Kearny St., SF

Come celebrate the first official day of the Ma'ARTES Festival with a pop-up store featuring indigenous Pilipino products, a variety of performances, and visual art including Kodakan: Pilipinos in the City exhibition at the I-Hotel Manilatown Center.

Dance: Frances Cachapero
Music: Dirty Boots
Poetry: Caroline Cabading, Anthem Salgado, and Ammiel Holder
Visual Arts: chalk artist - Paolo Salazar and the opening of Kodakan: Pilipinos in the City exhibition at the I-Hotel Manilatown Center

The Manila Collectible Company will be on site with a special pop-up store. There will be Philippine indigenous/local products direct from artisans of Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao


MAY 15 &16 at 8pm, MAY 17 at 3pm -- She, Who Can See
Location: Bindlestiff Studios, 185 6th St., SF

She Who Can See tells the story of a 4th generation Filipina American, and her struggles with her shamanic inheritance. Her world is turned upside down, disrupting her life and sanity when ancestral entities appear in her dreams and just about everywhere else.


MAY 23, 12noon - 1:30pm -- Maség
Location: Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, 750 Howard St., SF

Maség, is a mystical story of a once powerful and righteous tribal shaman chieftain who is exiled with his daughter to the island of Puló where he plots his malicious revenge. He manipulates and enslaves the spirit deities of the island, into conjuring a powerful typhoon to sink his enemies’ ship.


MAY 23, 11pm -- Barrio Fiesta
Location: Gene Friend Rec Center, 270 6th St., SF

Come on down to the Barrio Fiesta, inspired by the 1970s Barrio Fiesta in the South of Market Cultural Center.

Celebrate our Philippine roots and our longtime presence in the SOMA neighborhood with games, activities, and lechon!


MAY 29, 8pm - 10pm -- There’s The Moon and Then There’s You
Location: Bindlestiff Studios, 185 6th St., SF

Freshly fired from his job at NASA, aspiring astronaut David Nguyen comes home to wife, Mary, who has suffered yet another miscarriage and stressed from being the sole caretaker of her ill brother. David comes across a unique lottery that will give him a chance to achieve his lifelong dream of traveling to the moon.


MAY 30, 12noon - 1pm -- Felix Starro
Location: Gene Friend Rec Center, 270 6th St., SF

A musical tale of "Faith Healing." A.C.T. will perform songs from Jessica Hagedorn and Fabian Obispo's musical adaption of Lysley Tenorio's Felix Starro.


MAY 30, 12noon - 4pm -- SOMA Pilipinas Arts Fair
Location: Gene Friend Rec Center, 270 6th St., SF

Rock your Ma'ARTES Festival t-shirt, place a towel in your custom Ma'ARTES tote bag, and bring your family and friends to the final festival event - SOMA Pilipinas Arts Fair at Gene Friend Rec & Park.

The closing finale showcases excerpts from Felix Starro, musical performances by CryWolffs! and Florante Aguilar's Musical Ensemble, and more!
