Lucy Arnold's paintings feature bugs, butterflies, frogs, fish, and other delightful creatures of the natural world. She finds their myriad patterns and vivid colors amazing, and she loves to combine her background in biology with her artwork. Working primarily in watercolor, Ms. Arnold depicts actual species in a very realistic, colorful style - with just a touch of whimsy.
“Nature is my primary source of inspiration, and color my principal mode of expression. It is often the intimate details of nature that attract me. Much of my current work was inspired by a trip (with my scientist father and sister) up the Rio Negro in the heart of the Amazon Jungle. After doing dozens of small watercolor paintings for a diary, I was captivated by the idea of doing larger, more complex works of similar subjects. I’ve been focusing on natural history paintings ever since.”
