Jonboy is currently throwing the FreeDub parties on Third Fridays at F8, in addition to being a resident of the fantastic underground slammers SWAG. He is known to throw the occasional underground party by himself under the Dubalicious moniker. Jonboy also ran the notoriously sketchy Stillman space South of Market in San Francisco. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, he performed at Burning Man with the legendary Opulent Temple crew and continues to work with them throughout 2013.
From his early high school years at Chicago’s legendary Medusa’s nightclub, to his recent exploration of house, techno, and disco, Jonboy has embraced all elemental sounds of electronic music. His journey to the decks began in the early ’90s, when he spent weekends listening to the likes of Cajmere, Psycho Bitch, Felix da Housecat and Moby perform at Medusa’s. The music inspired Jon to attend raves across the city while dancing to the early techno and industrial music of that era.
While attending college in Boston, Jon started listening to big beat electronica, such as the Chemical Brothers, the Prodigy and Fatboy Slim. In addition, seeing live performances by the “superstar” DJs of the mid to late 90s at Karma and Crobar in Chicago, is what inspired him to purchase his own decks in 1999 and take in electronic music to its fullest extent.
In the summer of 2001, he relocated to San Francisco where he was exposed to the funky overtones of West Coast house. Jonboy eventually warmed up to the chunkier beats and nows plays a hybrid of house, techno, Indie disco and the occasional breakbeat that he continues to shape today.
