DJ Lamont Young has been spinning music for 33 years and has taught over 350 private DJ lessons since 2008 in his home music studio in the Mission District of San Francisco.
DJ Lamont was given his first “close n’ play” record player at the age of 5 and from that moment he found his voice, explored his passion, and found purpose, by creating a means to connect with people and community.
DJ Lamont is the creator & director of Fingersnaps DJ & Art Collective. Fingersnaps is a DJ school where music enthusiast can learn the art of spinning music, lifestyle, and culture. DJ Lamont founded Fingersnaps DJ & Art Collective in 2002 to fullfill a need in the DJ community and art world were people can come together to share common interest, learn and gain support from each other. The vision for Fingernsaps to teach DJ lessons which can provide opportunity for the music enthusiast. The mission of Fingersnaps is to create, education, and inspire.
He has taught DJ Lessons and media skills at the YMCA, Hamilton Family Center, and The California Men’s Gather. He has also taught with the San Francisco and Oakland Unified School District, and the Richmond Police Activities League’s after school and enrichment programs. It excites DJ Lamont to take the craft of DJ culture and technology from the clubs to the classrooms.
DJ Lamont hosts a weekly radio show called the Fingersnaps Music Salon on community radio KPOO 89.5 San Francisco. The salon features Disco, Classic House, A Deep House Mix, and NuJazz & Soul. He was music director of Mecca Restaurant & Bar for 9 years were he booked local talent spun music nightly. He has spun at various clubs, restaurants, and social events from family to corporate, to the back yard to the greatest ballrooms of the finest venues.
The future of Fingersnaps is to have a space where DJ lessons can be taught, workshops and symposiums hosted, space rental and events, along with retail, membership services for the DJ community, and event production.
